Floating

Jul 28, 2023

I've always loved being outside.

Years ago, way back when you were “merely” a person I liked a bit too much, one night every few months you would have found me in my backyard, lying on my hammock, looking at the stars and listening to the bugs and occasional frogs.

I hadn't done that in a while, and tonight seemed like a good night to do it again. I never did get the hammock out this year, though.

But I think I've found something better. Right now, I'm floating around in my little Walmart-special pool in a brand-spanking new floaty that looks a whole awful lot like the one I still have such fresh memories of watching you float around in on that lake.

My cheesy little pool isn't anywhere near as magnificent as the lake, but for tonight? It'll do.

And here's the part where I write what every lovelorn fool in the history of lovelorn fools writes when their love is away…

As I'm floating here, with the current taking me where it will (within a 15-foot circle…), every now and then that lovely moon peeks out from behind the trees, and I wonder… are you looking at it right now, too? Are you thinking of me, too? Do you miss me, the way I miss you?

It's funny, I used to think it was silly of me to think you might. But now?

I think maybe you do. I'm pretty sure you do.

Well. I hope you enjoy your trip, my love. I'll be missing you, but I'll be busy, too. One of the kids wants to go see a movie, and that never happens! And let's not forget the never-ending home improvements…

Well, anyhow.

Goodnight, my love. I love you.

Yours,
♒️
